Smith Jail Bond: Open Invitation For Comments Pro and Con

Do You Dare?

  1. This proposal, like every other proposal to spend more money on infrastructure from roads to jails to schools, is prompted by the continued “growth and development” that has been fostered by the economic and political leadership of Tyler.

This leadership has profited handsomely from the growth that their policies has created. However, now that money must be spent to meet the needs that growth is created they demand that the ordinary taxpayer bear the cost.

No further public financing of any infrastructure developemtn should be granted until and unless the leaderhsip gives an assurance that policies of growth be terminated forthwith.

I suspect that the average Smith county resident has no desire to see Tyler turn into a mini-Dallas but that is clearly the wish of the “growth and development” crowd.

    Enough is enough.

  2. Mr. Rathbone, we may not agree on everything, but my tendencies are Libertarian as well, and I would like to invite you to post any and all of your views. Most of the posting activity formerly done for this blog has been transfered to a blog by the same name, but with the domain name: http://ajeffersonian.com it is still powered by Word Press, but on our own domain and hosting using WordPress.org

  3. In my opinion, If Smith county took care of the jail it has now and stopped making bonds so stupidly outrageous. If they would stop searching for reasons and making up charges so they can lock their citizens up. If they would quit scaring the crap out of little kids and making them terrified of officers, thus losing all their respect. The jail would not be overcrowded and there would be no need for a new jail. Right now go look at the jail. Inmates share their cells and meals with rats. They are treated like they are in a third world country and families are treated no better. I want to thank all the innocent men and women in TDC right now so that Smith County can have their jail, But the citizens haven’t spoken yet. I say they dont deserve a new one. They need to earn the trust of their citizens first.
